Conical Insulator

Conical (or dome-shaped) busbar insulators support and insulate copper or aluminium busbars within LV distribution boards, MCCs and panel frames. They are the most common type of busbar support insulator used in UAE panel construction — installed between the busbar and the panel backplate or busbar framework to provide electrical isolation and mechanical support while maintaining the required air clearances between busbars and earthed metalwork.

How to Select the Correct Conical Insulator

Selection depends on two factors: the bolt/stud thread size (M6, M8, or M10 — determined by the busbar drilling and fixing hardware) and the required height (determined by the minimum required clearance between the busbar and the earthed panel frame). IEC 60439 (LV switchboards) requires a minimum 25mm air clearance in standard LV panels — choose an insulator height that provides at least this clearance with the busbar mounted in position. For UAE LV panels at 415V three-phase, 30mm insulators are the most common standard height.
