How do I confirm a CT is DEWA-approved before purchasing?

DEWA maintains an approved product list for metering CTs. Micron Electric UK CTs supplied by Noor Al Bawadi are on this list. When ordering from Noor Al Bawadi, request a copy of the DEWA approval certificate — we supply this documentation with each delivery for inclusion in the project O&M file. Do not accept CTs without a valid DEWA approval certificate for revenue metering applications.

Can I use a standard Class 1.0 CT for a DEWA meter installation?

No — DEWA requires Class 0.5 CTs for all revenue metering applications. Using a Class 1.0 CT at the DEWA metering point will result in inspection failure and a requirement to replace the CTs before energisation. This delays the project and increases cost. Always specify DEWA-approved Class 0.5 CTs from the project specification stage.

How do I select the correct primary current rating for a DEWA metering CT?

The primary current rating should match the rating of the incoming DEWA supply (as stated on the DEWA No Objection Certificate or supply application). For a 400A DEWA supply, use a 400A/5A CT. For 800A, use 800A/5A. If the supply rating is between standard CT values, select the next higher standard rating (e.g., for a 500A supply, use a 600A/5A CT). Consult the DEWA metering specifications for your specific supply voltage and current rating.

Do DEWA-approved CTs require any special sealing or tamper protection?

Yes — DEWA meters and associated CTs must be sealed after inspection to prevent tampering with the revenue metering installation.
